Home to nearly a million residents, this island is the third largest in the Hawaiian chain, as well as the most populated. It is home to the state capital and the U.S. Pacific Fleet’s headquarters. The 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor is memorialized here. O‘ahu also has the only royal palace on U.S. soil, a remnant of the former Kingdom of Hawai‘i. Today, its North Shore draws world-class surfers.
