Planning a trip? Check out the Mile High Swinging Bridge website.
A two-mile, winding drive up Grandfather Mountain is required to reach the country’s highest suspension footbridge. Originally opened in 1952, the structure is now built of steel that prevents the swinging of its predecessor. The structure crosses an 80-foot chasm, extends 228-feet across, and reaches 5,305 feet above the sea at Linville Peak.
