Opened in 1829, this revolutionary prison introduced the “Pennsylvania System,” which emphasized solitary confinement. Its massive Gothic-style walls once held notorious inmates like Al Capone. Abandoned in 1971, it has become a museum and cultural venue. It offers tours, art installations, and events inside its preserved cellblocks.
