On April 9, 1865, forces commanded by Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee met in a short battle that ended with a Confederate surrender in this village. The 968-acre park commemorates one of the Civil War’s final battles with a restored courthouse and McLean House, named for the retired officer whose home hosted the official surrender.
